After opening eight locations across Manhattan and Brooklyn, beloved Japanese retailer MUJI is finally heading to Queens. The brand’s first borough outpost is slated to open later this year inside Tangram Mall in Flushing.
Founded in Japan in 1980, MUJI–short for Mujirushi Ryohin, or “no-brand, quality goods”–has built a global following for its affordable, thoughtfully designed essentials.
From clothing and stationery to furniture, kitchenware, travel accessories, and even cult-favorite diffusers, the retailer is known for its minimalist aesthetic and commitment to reducing production and packaging waste. Many of its products are logo-free, focusing on simplicity, functionality, and longevity over flash.
The brand made its U.S. debut in 2007 with a flagship on Broadway in SoHo, and has steadily expanded ever since. Now, Queens shoppers will finally have a closer-to-home destination for everything from cozy basics to office supplies and home upgrades.

The new store will be located at 133-33 39th Ave. inside Tangram, a bustling Flushing hub complete with a dining hall, arcade, movie theater, and multi-level retail podium. According to QNS, Richard Rappaport, president of MUJI USA, stated:
We’re thrilled to join the Tangram community. Flushing is the perfect home for our first store in Queens, NY, and we look forward to welcoming both longtime fans and new visitors to explore our products, which are thoughtfully designed to make everyday life simpler, more enjoyable, and beautifully minimal.
Locals are already buzzing.
Reddit users celebrated the news with comments like, “now I don’t have to go to Hudson Yards to get that damn matcha spread,” “Wow this has been long overdue,” and “My stationery addiction just got closer to home ❤️.”
The Queens opening follows the 2025 debut of MUJI’s first-ever U.S. food concept, the MUJI Food Market at Chelsea Market–another sign that the minimalist favorite continues to deepen its NYC footprint.
